Men's rash guard: choose the right fit for BJJ, no gi and MMA

The buying guide in 6 photos. Tap a photo, the answer opens below.

Why wear a men's rash guard?

On the mat, your top takes everything: friction, grips and your opponent's sweat. A cotton T-shirt stretches, soaks up sweat and gives your opponent something to grab. A men's rash guard stays close to the body: it helps protect skin from mat burn, keeps loose fabric out of the way and can be washed after every session. 5 reasons to wear a rash guard.

The men's cut follows the shape of the shoulders and back: the fabric does not pull when you frame, and the hem stays beneath the waistband of your shorts.

BJJ, no gi or MMA: which men's rash guard fits each sport?

For BJJ with a gi, wear it underneath your jacket at the gym: choose long sleeves to protect your arms from friction against the lapel and sleeves. In no gi and grappling, it replaces the jacket; both cuts are worn, and color matters in IBJJF competition. In MMA, short sleeves keep the shoulders free for striking and cage work. In wrestling, the top must stay tight to the body so there is nothing to grab: short sleeves here too.

Which cut for which practice?

Every design covers the whole back and wraps around the sides and sleeves, with no empty space.

In BJJ with the gi, choose long sleeves: they protect the arms from jacket friction and don't ride up during guard passes. In no-gi and grappling, both cuts work; short sleeves leave the shoulders freer. In MMA and wrestling, short sleeves are the most common choice.

Men's rash guard at competition

In no-gi, IBJJF requires a black, white, or black-and-white base, with at least 10% in the belt colour. Check the dominant colour of the design against your tournament rules. At the club, on open mat, and in tournaments with no colour code, they work everywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Men's rash guards, your questions answered

Short answers below. The details are in the buying guide, under the grid.

Write to us

Long sleeves or short sleeves?

Long sleeves for BJJ in the gi and long sessions: they protect the arms from friction. Short sleeves for no-gi, MMA and wrestling: the shoulders are freer.

What size should I choose?

The 2 cuts don't fit the same: in long sleeves, size down 1 from your usual size; in short sleeves, your usual size, or size up between two sizes. Our size guide.

Does the print hold up in the wash?

Yes. It's printed into the fibre, across the whole piece: it won't crack or peel. Machine wash at 30°C max, inside out, no fabric softener, and air dry.

Can I wear it at an IBJJF no-gi tournament?

In no-gi, IBJJF requires a black, white, or black-and-white base, with at least 10% in the belt colour. Check the dominant colour of the design before a tournament.

What fightwear should a man wear?

For ground work: a rash guard, pocket-free fight shorts and, if you want, spats underneath. For BJJ with a gi, add the gi and belt; for MMA, shorts that allow kicks, gloves and a mouthguard. The complete outfit, piece by piece.

Can you wear a rash guard for weight training or running?

Yes: it reduces friction, dries quickly and follows your movement. Its 230 g/m² fabric is built for the mat, so it is warmer than a running top; for the gym, a plain compression shirt is enough. Can you run in a rash guard?

When will I receive it?
